Gerald Gardner, the future founder of Wicca, was introduced to Aleister Crowley in May of 1947. In the subsequent months, they met several more times, and Gardner received initiation into Ordo Templi Orientis and was also given a Charter to form an OTO Camp. Crowley died on December 1st 1947 and Gardner never pursued his OTO career, becoming instead involved in the development of the Wicca movement. Nevertheless, there is evidence that some of Crowley’s writings and ideas made their way into Gardner’s original Book of Shadows and early Wicca rituals. This talk will explore Crowley’s influence of Gerald Gardner and early Wicca.
